EXPLORE THE COLORFUL TOMB OF PHARAOH SETI I
GOLDEN GRANDEUR IN THE VALLEY OF THE KINGS
Set in the Valley of the Kings, pictured above, descending into the Tomb of Seti is a truly awe-inspiring experience. Seti’s time was very prosperous, and he put a great deal of work into making his burial chamber the most decorated tomb in the valley. Considered one of the best preserved tombs in Egypt, the walls appeared to have been freshly painted when it was discovered in 1817, and the artisans’ paint and brushes were found at the site. The colors simply must be experienced in person — you won’t believe it was painted 3,000 years ago!
STEP UP TO EXPERIENCE THE PYRAMID OF DJOSER
THE FIRST-EVER PYRAMID & ANCIENT ARCHITECTURE IN SAKKARA
There are over 130 pyramids in Egypt, but the Pyramid of Djoser (or Step Pyramid) in the ancient Sakkara necropolis was the first ever (built around 2630 BC). It was designed by an architect named Imhotep, a genius of the ancient times who became the second most powerful man after the pharaoh. The pyramid was intended to be one mastaba (step) constructed over the tomb, but after inspecting the construction of the first step, Imhotep decided to enlarge it, and then added five more, with a conical shape at the top which points to the sun. Sakkara is also home to hundreds of tombs that belong to the noble class in Egypt. The tombs show a great deal of special artwork, and reveal everyday life in ancient Egypt with scenes of housewives at home with the children, farmers in the field, and others fishing or tending to their flock.
